Today In Antioch History: The Mystery of The Missing Captain

Law & Order is never easy to maintain, but after reading this article from 1906, I can’t help but be impressed by how far we’ve come. One hundred years ago, we didn’t have DNA, security cameras or forensic analysis. Most investigagtions were heavlily based on the testimony of eye witnesses. It very well could have been that Captain Larbig was assualted and robbed in the wild west, but he could have just as easily have left Antioch to reinvent himself elsewhere.
Antioch still has it’s fair share of missing people each year, but they are pretty relentless in chasing down the instances where they suspect foul play. While they haven’t solved every case to come across their path, they have done a good job of keeping violent crime away from our community and in other parts of the bay area. I’m not sure if they ever found the good captain, but I bet we would have more answers if it would have happened today.
